What Compression is Best for Women With Slower Swing Speeds?

Before we uncover what compression is best for women with slower swing speeds, I need to explain the basics of ‘compression’. Golf ball compression refers to the density of a golf ball’s core. Soft golf balls have low compression ratings, whereas hard golf balls are higher.

The core of a golf ball compresses the moment it connects with the clubhead. It’s then the speed of your clubhead and the compression level of the ball that activates the technology inside. When the speed compression compliment each other, that’s when you see longer distances.

So, you can now see how clubhead speed and compression go hand in hand, and why it’s important to get the right match. The higher the golf ball’s compression, the more speed you’ll need to get the most out of it, and visa versa.

What Compression is Best for Women With Slower Swing Speeds?

The majority of female golfers have below-average swing speeds. The average driver swing speed for amateur female golfers is 65 mph, compared to 90mph for men. As a result, the best golf balls for women with a slow swing speed is one that’s rated as an ultra-low compression.

Low compression golf balls have an average rating between 60 and 80. But, ultra-low compression balls have ratings as low as 38, like the Callaway Supersoft. This ball is one of those softest golf balls currently on the market. The Bridgestone e6 Soft also has a low rating of 44, and the Srixon Soft feel has a rating of 60. These are great examples of golf balls that are ideal for women with slow swing speeds.

The proper compression at impact ensures optimal spin rates and faster ball speeds, which delivers more distance. Optimal spin rates all ensure accuracy and a strong ball flight. Last but not least, it also provides exceptional control around the greens.

If a woman with a slow swing speed plays with a mid to high compression golf ball, performance won’t be optimal. The Pro V1 range by Titleist is the number one ball in golf, but it isn’t the best option for slow-swinging women. Because the pros play with it doesn’t mean that it is the best option for all golfers.

If you can, find out what your average swing speed is and play with a golf ball that’s designed for that range. Unfortunately, you won’t drive the ball as far as Lexi Thompson does, but the change will be worth it once you start seeing the results out on the golf course.
